The Middle School
Sixth grade marks the beginning of middle school at Harvest Academy and is a pivotal year for shaping both the hearts and minds of our students.
While still receiving support and guidance from the Lower School, sixth graders are challenged to grow in their thinking, writing, and speaking. They begin to use the rich foundation built in earlier years in new and exciting ways—connecting ideas, analyzing more deeply, and communicating with greater clarity and confidence.
Over the next three years, students will refine their ability to logically organize knowledge, form meaningful arguments, and think critically about what they read and hear. They will make connections across subjects and strengthen their skills in both written and oral communication.
Logic & Literature
Students begin their journey of logic, reasoning, understanding fallacies, and more in The Middle School. On top of formal logic classes, students push deeper into classics such as The Hobbit, The Jungle Book, Bound for Oregon, and The Call of the Wild to name a few. Using Writing With Skill as the core writing curriculum, students engage their history, literature, and creative writing in a practically meaningful manner.
History and Geography
Middle school is a special time that we belive ignites a passion for learning. A deep knowledge and love for history and geography are critical for understanding our global world today. Each grade level in The Middle School carries its own unique highlights and traditions, including an NC General Assembly field trip in 6th and a capstone trip to Israel in 8th.
Device-Free Learning
With the rapid spread of technology into our lives, students at Harvest Academy are given a chance to be children again, free of screens, for the duration of their K-8 experience. Student will begin a formal at-home typing program, but the school remains device-free.
What Parents Are Saying
-
“We love Harvest Academy because of the changes we are seeing in our kids at home. They have grown to love learning in ways we never knew were possible. Mrs. Williard is a treasure of a teacher and has created a classroom culture that ignites critical thinking for my daughter. The communication lines are always open and I cannot imagine sending my children anywhere else!”

"After several years in the public school system, we took a leap of faith and decided to join Harvest Academy for third grade. Despite all of the unknowns and no familiarity with the University-Model or homeschooling, the transition has been extremely smooth. We are impressed with the curriculum and resources provided to make home days fun and successful. Harvest has become like a second family to us, and we are excited to watch our children grow academically and spiritually within this supportive community."

Harvest Academy is so much more than a school to our family. They are an integral part of our community, our neighborhood, and our lives. Everyday, our daughter is excited to go, and she is simultaneously challenged and nurtured. It has been amazing to see academic and spiritual growth in our child. Not only is her knowledge and understanding of the Bible increasing, but she also is developing a greater love for God and others. The teachers and staff are kind and compassionate and really get to know your child. They do an amazing job of helping children in a learn in a respectful and supportive classroom environment. So grateful for this school and the community it provides!
